Samuel Diaz, Sr.

October 12,1936 - January 3, 2024

Samuel Diaz, Sr., a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and dedicated man of God, passed away peacefully on January 3, 2024 at the age of 87.

He was born on October 12, 1936 in Pawnee, Texas. He is preceded in death by his father and mother, Benjamin and Josefa Diaz; brothers, Benjamin and Daniel (I), Moises, David, and Daniel (II); sisters, Esther Gomez and Lydia Garcia; his wife, Carmen Diaz; and son-in-law, John M. Bailey. He is survived by his sister, Sarah Soto; his daughters and sons, Sylvia Spanos (Gregg), Samuel Diaz, Jr.(Amy), Debra D. Bailey (David), and Xavier Diaz (Monica); and twelve grandchildren, Erik N. Diaz, Alexandra Spanos Gorman (Marshall), Erica R. Rodriguez, Jonathan R. Bailey (Sierra), Thomas J. Bailey (Iliana), Iliana C. Pantoja, Devin Espinosa, Dylan Espinosa, Mia Diaz, Samantha Diaz, Deyli Diaz, Julianna G. Pantoja; and two great grandchildren, Emma R. Moreno and Lilah Bailey, and many loving nieces and nephews.

Samuel lived his life for the Lord and his ultimate goal was to serve Him. He was a dedicated member of Antioquia Mexican Baptist Church for many years. With his wife, Carmen, Samuel helped serve many families who were led to the church and many others in the community. He had a special place in his heart for his family and friends. Samuel had a passion for playing guitar and singing at family gatherings, and leading worship in church. There is no doubt he is praising with God and the angels in heaven.

Viewing will be held Thursday, January 18th from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. Prayer service will be held at 6:30 p.m. at Ortiz Mortuary at 3114 Culebra Rd., San Antonio, Texas 78228.

A celebration of life service will be held Friday, January 19th at 10:30 a.m. at First Mexican Baptist Church, 210 Meredith Dr., San Antonio, Texas 78228. A procession will depart the church for the burial at San Jose Burial Park at 8235 Mission Rd., San Antonio, Texas 78214.

After the burial, a reception will be held at Peace by Piece Connection at 4803 S. Flores, San Antonio, Texas 78214. All are invited to join the family.
