Rene Gilbert Carreño, Sr., born December 16, 1942, in San Antonio, Texas went to be with the Lord August 27, 2024, at the age of 81. He is preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Estella Carreño and sister, Rose Mary Valdez.

Rene was an avid outdoorsman. He grew his love for the outdoors in Boy Scouts where he was a member of the scouting honor society called the Order of the Arrow. Camping along Texas rivers, fishing at Braunig Lake and Port Aransas, and hunting in New Mexico were his favorite activities. He even spent several weeks panning for gold in the mountains of Colorado where he came back richer in memories but not in gold.

As a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local #60, he worked in the trade for more than 40 years helping to build SAMC and Fiesta Texas just to name a couple. He proudly pointed out the buildings and projects he worked on to his children.

Rene took joy in coaching his sons' baseball teams in their early days and watching anxiously from the audience at his daughter's dance recitals.

He is survived by his children, Rene Carreño (Lorena), Charles Carreño (JoAnn), Christa Carreño Aldrich (Anthony); brother-in-law, Ernest Valdez; grandchildren, Aerin Moss (Rhodie), Adam Carreño, Jenelle Hernandez (Jesse Garcia), Candace Carreño (Jacinda Muniz), Troy Carreño (Samantha), Alyssa Aldrich; great-grandchild, Nolan Moss; niece, Vanessa Valdez-Montoya (Juan); nephew, Ernest Gilbert Valdez; grand-nephew, Royce Montoya; best friend, Joe Pena; as well as numerous extended family and friends. His presence in our lives will be dearly missed by everyone who knew and loved him.

Visitation will be held Thursday, September 5, 2024, from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a 6:00 PM rosary held at Ortiz Mortuary in Chapel B.

The following day on Friday, September 6, 2024, friends and family will meet at 9:30 AM for a 10:00 AM Mass at St. Gregory Catholic Church 700 Dewhurst Rd, San Antonio, TX 78213

A private interment with immediate family will follow at Cordi- Marian Resurrection Cemetery 11624 Culebra Rd, San Antonio, TX 78253.
