Obituary

Joan Hahn Riegel

Dorothy Joan Hahn, born August 8, 1933, to Dorothy and Leo, lived a life marked by faith, family, and friendship. Graduating as valedictorian from St. Gerard's, Joan was a lifelong scholar, committed to learning and growing in her Catholic faith. Introduced to Jack Riegel by a mutual family friend, Harry Boggs, they married on Valentine's Day 1953, building a loving family with two sons, Jack (III) and David, and later a daughter, Sharon.

Devout Catholics, Joan and Jack were active members of St. Luke's Catholic Church for over 60 years. Joan's devotion extended beyond attending Mass; she contributed through flower arranging, sewing banners, serving on the Parish Council, and participating in Bible study. Her faith was the cornerstone of her life, shaping her interactions with others and guiding her actions.

Beyond her church community, Joan found joy in the San Antonio Garden Club and her many close friendships that endured for decades. She cherished her family deeply, delighting in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, numbering 21 in total. Joan's love was immense, extending to her daughters-in-law, son-in-law, nieces, and nephews, each of whom felt her unwavering support and prayers.

Joan's journey was also marked by loss; she peacefully passed on April 11, 2024, preceded in death by her beloved husband Jack (II), son Jack (III), and grandson Daniel, as well as other cherished family members and friends. Yet, her legacy of love and faith lives on in the hearts of those she touched.

Services honoring Joan's life will be held at St. George Maronite Church on Wednesday, April 17, 2024. Visitation with the family will be from 9-10 a.m., followed by a rosary at 10 a.m. and a funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. Joan will be laid to rest at Holy Cross Cemetery, followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Joan's name to St. Francis Nursing Home.
