Irene Harlow Aguayo was born in San Antonio, Texas to Lucille Mendez Harlow and Richard Harlow, Sr., and lived to the age of eighty. Irene lived a life of devotion to the Lord, her family, and her community. Irene's early years consisted of a typical traditional Catholic family life. Part of that life was graduating from Little Flower Catholic High School. Irene worked as a public servant at Kelly Air Force Base where she met her husband, Louis Aguayo. After plentiful years at Kelly Air Force Base, she went on to work at the Archdiocese of San Antonio for over twenty years.

As part of her service life, she was affiliated with various members of San Antonio's local clergy and countless lay persons. Irene, a devoted Catholic, without hesitation always helped in her community, befriending, and serving quietly in myriad capacities. She helped her extended family as well as nuns affiliated with St. Paul's Catholic Church community and throughout the archdiocese.

Irene although incredibly involved in the religious community was especially enthusiastic about sports, playing softball in women's leagues. Irene also played volleyball for countless years, even having a record for most points scored in the Senior Olympics.

Irene loved all kinds of books from romantic fiction novels to historical and science fiction. Her love of reading knew no end. Irene also loved to find information on her ancestry being a proud Mexican American woman, always seeking more answers to her origins and roots. Although Irene may have been a known bookworm, she was not necessarily quiet, and always spoke her mind directly. She even loved to have a great laugh, evidenced by her immense love for her husband Louis, a jokester to all who knew him.

Irene Harlow Aguayo has always been an active servant of God and a beautiful person with a servant's heart, whose true joy was to be kind and to help others. Irene's parents, siblings, and husband precede her in eternal life. She now rests with her parents Lucille Mendez Harlow, and Richard Harlow, Sr., her brothers Richard Jr. and Clyde William, Sr., her sister Eileen, her nephew John Harlow, and her husband Louis Aguayo.

Irene's services will be at Ortiz Mortuary, on Wednesday, March 20, 2024. Open viewing and visitation will begin at 3 pm with a Rosary at 6:30 pm. The final services will continue at Little Flower Catholic Church on Thursday, March 21, 2024, with a 9:30 am mass. The family asks mass attendees to please meet at the church directly for mass. Irene will later have a private ceremony and will rest finally at Fort Sam Houston Cemetery after her cremation.
